19-inch rack or 500 series? California’s A-Designs Audio brings Quad Eight-inspired circuitry to your recording chain through its Pacifica mic preamps and P1 modules (no console required). There’s more to the range than preamps, too: REDDI tube DI boxes and Hammer equalisers cover instrument recording and tonal shaping. The Quad Eight connection is more than a cream panel and red knobs. Peter Montessi and Jon Erickson worked with CineMag’s Tom Reichenbach, whose father designed the original Quad Eight transformers, to develop the Pacifica. More than two years of testing and listening went into bringing that console character to a standalone preamp.

Tracking or mixing? P1 and EM-PEQ 500 series units handle preamplification and EQ, while REDDI and REDDI V2 DI boxes take care of instrument inputs. Hammer 2 and EM-EQ2 equalisers sit alongside the HM2 Nail compressor in our range. Choose the job first, then the box to do it.
