AEA was founded in 1964 and began servicing RCA ribbon microphones in 1976 under founder Wes Dooley. By 1998, the company could manufacture every part needed for the RCA 44, leading to its own R44C. That repair-bench heritage still informs its microphones, handcrafted in Pasadena, California, with designs for different sources and recording distances. The emphasis is on choosing the right ribbon for the job, from a single instrument to the sound of the whole ensemble.

Mono or stereo? The R84 and R92 sit alongside the R88 MK2 stereo ribbon microphone in our collection, while the KU5A offers a supercardioid option. On the electronics side, TRP3 and RPQ3 preamps join TRP500 and RPQ503 500 series units. The range also includes TDI and TDI Duo DI boxes, the 1029 stereo compressor and microphone accessories such as the SMS and SMP-17 stereo bars.
