Maryland’s API brings its American console heritage to mic preamps, equalisers and compressors, with the 2520 discrete op amp at the heart of many classic designs. API’s modular approach goes back to Saul Walker’s designs: the 2520 discrete circuit arrived in 1968, followed by 500 series modules in 1969. The lunchbox entered production in 1985, taking those building blocks beyond the console. That connection between desk and rack remains central to the range, with consoles such as the 2448 sitting alongside individual modules you can combine around the way you record.
Tracking drums or shaping a stereo mix? The 512c and 512v cover microphone preamplification, with variable output control on the latter. The 550A and 550B offer stepped EQ choices, while the 560 takes the graphic EQ route. For dynamics, there’s the 529 stereo compressor in 500 series format and the 2500 bus compressor for the rack. Our collection also includes the 5500 dual equaliser, T12 tube mic preamp and 8200A summing mixer. Add a 500 series chassis, and you can bring preamps, EQ and compression together without committing to a complete console.
