Avid
Most commercial studios still speak Pro Tools, and this is the hardware that speaks it best. Peter Gotcher and Evan Brooks started Digidesign in 1984, Pro Tools arrived in 1991 and Avid bought the company in 1995, so you’ll see both names on HD I/O interfaces, HDX and HD Native cards, MTRX converters, control surfaces and the DigiLink cables that join it all up.
HDX cards carry the DSP for near-zero latency tracking, HD Native cards and the HD Native Thunderbolt box lean on the computer instead, and the HDX Thunderbolt 3 chassis brings a card-based rig to a modern machine. On the audio side there’s the HD I/O in 8x8x8, 8x16 and 16x16 analogue and digital form, with spare analogue and digital cards, plus the HD PRE mic preamp, the SYNC HD clock, MTRX Studio, the MTRX base unit with MADI and Carbon.
For hands-on control there’s the S1, the Pro Tools Dock, the D-Command ES and the Digidesign C24, while HD Accel cards keep older rigs going. The small parts matter more than you’d think (ask anyone who has bought an HD I/O without the right cable): DigiLink and Mini-DigiLink adaptors and cables and the SATA flexcable are often the missing piece.
If the card, interface or cable you need isn’t listed, Find Me Gear will track it down. Everything is tested before it’s ready to ship UK-wide.
