Beyerdynamic
Eugen Beyer started out building loudspeakers for Berlin’s cinemas in 1924, and the company still thinks in moving coils and ribbons. Beyerdynamic’s M160 double ribbon has been a guitar-cab and snare favourite since it arrived in 1957, and the M88 and M201 are just as hard to replace. We’ve got ribbon and dynamic mics, MC 930 condensers and DT 990 headphones coming through.
The DT 48 of 1937 was the first dynamic headphone, and after the war Beyer rebuilt in Heilbronn, where the M160 and its figure-of-eight partner, the M130, both appeared in 1957. The M160 stacks two ribbons in a hypercardioid pattern (unusual for a ribbon), and with an M130 alongside it you have a ready-made mid-side pair.
Dynamics are the other half of the story. The M88 is the big, warm choice for kick and vocals, the M201 is tight and focused on snare, and the M69, M99 and M101 round it out, several of them in TG form. Then there’s the M260 ribbon, the MC 930 stereo set and CV 710 condenser bodies with CK 701 and CK 708 capsules.
Beyers are built to take a beating, which is why so many come back through our doors. If the model you want isn’t listed, put it on Find Me Gear and we’ll go looking; every mic is checked on the bench and ready to ship UK-wide.
