Valves don’t have to mean obvious distortion. D.W. Fearn designs outboard around Class A valve audio paths, with options for recording a source, shaping its tone and controlling its dynamics. Our collection includes VT-2 mic preamps, VT-5 equalisers and VT-7 compressors (the red panels are easier to spot than subtle gain reduction). Choose where you want the circuit working: during tracking, across individual tracks or on a stereo mix.

Doug Fearn’s recording work led him to develop the VT-1 valve microphone preamp in 1993. That approach continues through the range: the VT-2 uses point-to-point audio wiring and custom Jensen transformers, while the VT-5 combines passive LC equalisation with valve amplification. For dynamics, the VT-7 joins our compressors and limiters, pairing a valve audio path with pulse-width-modulation gain control and independent or linked stereo operation.
