Genelec
Walk into a broadcast suite, a mastering room or a dubbing theatre and there’s a fair chance the speakers are Finnish. Genelec built its first active monitor, the S30, for the Finnish Broadcasting Company in 1978, and the 1031A, the die-cast 8000 series and the SAM models with room calibration all came from the same factory in Iisalmi. Nearfields, coaxials and subwoofers come through regularly.
The 1031A of 1991 is the one that turned up on meter bridges everywhere, and the 1029A, 1030A and 1038A share the same idea: compact, active and honest. The 1029A was Genelec’s first die-cast aluminium cabinet, which led to the rounded 8000 series and then the SAM models that set themselves up to the room with GLM calibration (Genelec still services models as far back as the S30, which helps).
Through the doors come 1029A, 1030A, 1031A and 1038A pairs, 8020B and 8020D desktop monitors, the 8030A and 8040B, SAM models from the 8320A, 8330A and 8340A to the 8240A, the coaxial 8341A and 8351A, and 7040A and 7070A subwoofers to fill in the bottom octave. Add stands and a monitor controller and the monitoring is sorted.
Pairs rarely stay listed for long. If the size you need has gone, tell Find Me Gear and we’ll hunt down the next set, run up and listened to before it’s ready to ship UK-wide.
