Neumann

Look in the mic cabinet of almost any serious studio and the most worn cases will say Neumann. Georg Neumann started building condenser microphones in Berlin in 1928, and the valve U47 and U67 and the solid-state U87 that followed set the pattern for the modern vocal mic. We’ve got those, plus TLM and KM condenser microphones, M147 and M149 valve mics and KH monitors coming through.

It all started with the CMV 3 (the ‘Neumann bottle’), and the valve M49 and U47 carried the name into post-war studios. The U67 arrived in 1960 and the transistorised U87 in 1967, then the transformerless TLM range followed: TLM 102, TLM 103, TLM 49, TLM 67, TLM 170 and TLM 193. Neumann has been part of Sennheiser since 1991, and its KH studio monitors carry on the Klein + Hummel line.

Small diaphragms run from the KM 84, KM 83i, KM 86i and KM74 to the KM 184 family and the modular KM 100 system - KM 130, KM 140 and KM 150 - with the USM 69 stereo mic and the MCM 114 guitar set alongside. Valve fans get the M49V, M147, M149 and U67s both vintage and reissue, one of them built up by Max Kircher. On the outboard side there’s the V 402 mic preamp, racked W491A and PEVc console EQs and NDH 20 headphones, and KH 80, 120A, 310A, 420, 750 and 805 monitors with the MA 1 alignment kit.

Neumanns tend to sell fast, U87s and KM 84 pairs above all, so if the model you’re after isn’t listed, put a request through Find Me Gear and we’ll start the hunt. Every mic is powered up, listened to and checked over before it’s packed and ready to ship UK-wide.
