Audeze

Open-back or closed-back? Start with where you’ll be listening. California’s Audeze builds planar magnetic headphones, with options for quiet rooms and sessions that call for more isolation. Our range includes the LCD-2 Padauk and LCD-XC, giving you two different approaches to your monitoring setup (the room still gets a vote). Choose the format that fits your working space, then settle into the mix.

Audeze started in a Southern California garage in 2008, taking its name from a poster for 2001: A Space Odyssey. Its planar magnetic drivers are made in Orange County, California. The principle is straightforward: magnetic arrays apply force across a thin diaphragm, rather than driving it from a conventional voice coil.

Wood rings or carbon fibre cups? The LCD-2 Padauk uses an open-back design, while the closed-back LCD-XC provides isolation from surrounding sound. Both use 106mm planar magnetic drivers and Fazor waveguides. Match the headphones to your listening environment, then consider the output driving them; our headphone amps collection covers that part of the chain.
