Roger Mayer
Tape character without threading a reel? Roger Mayer’s 456HD processors use analogue circuitry to recreate tape’s harmonic and dynamic behaviour, bringing saturation to individual tracks and stereo mixes. Our collection includes 456HD modules and the 456HD-M Stereo, alongside the 58LM limiter and RM 68MP mic preamp. Build the chain around the source, then decide how far to push it (the reels can stay in their boxes).
The 456HD-500 X takes its reference from Ampex 456 tape used with a Studer A80, using discrete Class-A circuitry and transformer-balanced inputs and outputs. It joins our 500 series units alongside the 58LM, whose feed-forward limiter design shares circuitry with the RM58. Drive sets the amount of gain reduction, Wave adjusts the harmonics generated during limiting, and Trim controls the output level. The RM 68MP adds microphone and instrument input options, a pad and high-pass filter.
