Cloud Microphones

Quiet source, low-output microphone? Cloud Microphones tackles the gain before it reaches your main preamp. Its Cloudlifter units add gain for passive dynamics and ribbon microphones, while the range also includes microphones and dedicated mic preamps. We’ve got options for boosting an existing mic or building a recording chain from the source (the microphone isn’t always the part that needs replacing).

The Cloud 44 Midnight draws on the RCA 44 ribbon motor design, pairing its original internal dimensions with modern neodymium magnets. Our listing bundles the passive microphone with a Midnight Edition CL-1. That Cloudlifter uses 48V phantom power to provide up to 25dB of gain without passing phantom power through to the microphone.

An inline booster or a complete preamp? The CL-2 provides two channels of Cloudlifter gain, while the TRUE BLUE 520 joins our 500 series units. Co-designed with Tim Spencer of TRUE Systems, it offers up to 76dB of gain, a variable high-pass filter and a front-panel instrument input. Choose around the microphone’s output and the gain already available in your setup.
